How to apply Upholstery Tacks

Upholstery tacks are unique products which made by at least two different parts combined under very high force with special machines. So their head is big and unable to see it’s shanks while you hammering it in.

Thats why hammering upholstery tacks may not be easy  for new beginners, here is the 3 simple rules for applying upholstery tacks,

1- Choose correct hammer

If you are using 7/16″ or 5/8″ tacks, you should choose light weight hammers to apply them, with heavy hammers it’s unable to control hitting power and direction. You should also consider to use rubber mallets if you are going to hammer Crystal tacks, steel hammers may make some scrathes on them. Asiahan or decotacks brand crystal tacks are coming with “Soft Pad” together which you can stick it on your light weight steel hammer. This pad will convert your steel hammer to soft face hammers.

2- Use Needle Nose Pliers

You should never catch upholstery nails with your fingers! this is dangerous for your hand and as well as eyes!!!  Because if you catch it by free hand you are not able to adjust hitting direction, if direction is not correct, the nail may jump or it’s shank get bent.  Jumped nails are very dangerus, it may harm yourself or the people around you.

3- We suggest to use safety glasses, this will help you to protect your eyes from jumping nails.
